However, when trying to find posts based on specific parameters, the search function has some limitations. I interviewed 4 women regarding their mobile phone usage, with an emphasis on communications, by asking the following questions:<\/p><ul><li>What is the primary type of communication (calls, texts, emails, etc.)?<\/li><li>Name your 5 most used apps<\/li><li>Who do you communicate with the most?<\/li><li>When do you use your phone to communicate?<\/li><li>What types of messages do you send?<\/li><li>What issues do you usually encounter when communicating?<\/li><\/ul><p>From these interviews, I compiled their answers and biographical data to create a persona.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f425a33 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"f425a33\" class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To better understand a user&#8217;s experience and any pain points they may encounter, I created a customer journey map where my persona, Kayla, interacts with Instagram (the most common app used among those interviewed) to find out more about a restaurant she discovered through a hashtag she follows.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c04e4b6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"c04e4b6\" statement:<\/p><p>Kayla, a working woman in her 20s, needs to <strong>efficiently search for and locate information on Instagram<\/strong> about a new restaurant&#8217;s soft opening because she wants to share a new and (hopefully) fun experience with friends she hasn&#8217;t seen in awhile.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-dd1de98 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"dd1de98\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div the <strong>SCAMPER method<\/strong> to help generate various ideas and solutions on how to improve the user&#8217;s experience with Instagram. To address the point-of-view problem statement, I chose to implement two ideas &#8211; <strong>making the search function more robust<\/strong> and <strong>magnifying posts from official or featured accounts.<\/strong><\/p><h4><span style=\"color: #405de6;\"><strong>S<\/strong>ubstitute<\/span><\/h4><ul><li>Can I substitute the app\/channel that is being used to communicate?<br \/><span style=\"color: #c13584;\">Facebook messenger or Whatsapp<\/span><\/li><li>Can I replace the person(s) using app?<br \/><span style=\"color: #c13584;\">Business instead of individual<\/span><\/li><li>Can I change the type of business being searched for\/viewed?<br \/><span style=\"color: #c13584;\">Service-based, specialty store, clothing brand, event<\/span><\/li><li>Can I use another process to schedule the meet up?<br \/><span style=\"color: #c13584;\">Built-in calendar or RSVP through Yelp (if business has Yelp style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Additional Research<\/strong><\/span><\/h3><p>Before sketching out low-fidelity wireframes, I looked into Instagram&#8217;s search and how it compares to my experience and general knowledge of using the search feature on various sites and apps.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-c5afcb3 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"c5afcb3\" I weighed pros and cons for two ways of displaying search results &#8211; masonry like the main search screen or the general display grid.<\/p><p>Although the masonry layout was more visually appealing, an issue could arise with consecutive posts from verified accounts (which would be enlarged to differentiate them from normal accounts).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element conducting user research such as interviews was eye-opening to understand problems that may not have been otherwise noticed.\u00a0 Additionally, creating a persona and scenario to really focus on the user&#8217;s experience was critical in pinpointing the main issue.<\/p><p>While researching about how to get verified on Instagram, I found out that this status can be difficult to get because of the required criteria. Smaller businesses that aren&#8217;t as well known or just starting out would most likely not be able to get this badge, and my solution for identifying posts this way would only work for some accounts.<\/p><p>An interesting side note from one of the women I interviewed was being introduced to another area of Instagram for &#8216;Posts You&#8217;ve Liked.&#8217;\u00a0 The interviewee expressed her frustrations with scrolling through this section, and even shared her thoughts on how her experience could be better.
